Last semester, ISA held an event called "Chit Chaat: A Look into the Epidemic of our Town" which delved into the economic, political, and social issues surrounding the housing crisis in Charlottesville. This semester, ISA is taking a more hands-on approach to advocacy and would like to produce a research report on the housing crisis in our own town. If you are even remotely interested in learning more about local politics, social justice issues, race relations, and/or public health, APPLY!! We are looking for passionate members of the university who are willing to apply a diverse range of skills to this project.

HEART Women and Girls is an organization that promotes sexual health and sexual violence awareness in Muslim communities through health education, advocacy, research and training.
This workshop, titled “Breaking Taboos: Empowering Safe(r) Spaces for Sexual Violence Intervention and Prevention” will delve into areas of intersection related to sexual health and violence, including privilege, rape culture, and gender stereotypes. It will also introduce techniques to dismantle these using Islamic-based values and evidence-based practices around organizing safe spaces will be discussed. Additionally, this workshop will strive to empower participants to strategize a plan to create safe spaces within their own campus community. It will take place on Thursday, October 25th at 7pm in room 177 of Newcomb Hall.

This semester, OYFA, ISA and SYZ are proud to present to you the Purple Ribbon Project. Come out to our biggest event of October, to help support and promote Domestic Violence Awareness Month!
We will be inviting guest speaker Rachel Kiliany to come in and give a presentation about domestic violence. Afterwards there will be an open discussion about identifying and combating domestic violence.

We know that this huge ISA family can be intimidating, so we’ve made a new SIBS structure that can help you find bigs and littles that you really mesh with! SIBS week consists of 8 events spread throughout the month of September. This presents you with the opportunity to get to know more members (new and old) during the first half of SIBS events before sending in Big or Little Apps with preferences for your SIB. We’ll then sort you into houses, families, and pairings before September 18th!
